7 Reasons to Wax Instead of Shave That Are Worth considering ...

By Erica

For hair removal you can wax or shave, but there are more reasons to wax instead of shave. A clean shave can sometimes be hard to achieve because there’s always that one area you somehow miss. To avoid the hassle you might as well wax, which can be a little painful, but in my opinion totally worth it. It’s also quicker and leaves your skin much smoother. Not to mention you don’t have to worry about piling on shaving cream to make sure you don’t leave little cuts all over yourself. Let’s check out some reasons to wax that make it better than shaving.

1

It Last Longer

When you wax it actually removes the entire hair from the root, resulting in hair-free skin for weeks. Shaving only leaves you hair free for a couple of days, if that, because it only cuts the hair down; it doesn't actually remove it. This is one of the main reasons to wax instead of shave. Your skin will remain smooth and hair free much longer, allowing you to kick those razors to the curb for a while. Why have the hassle of shaving every other day if you don’t have to?

2

Less Irritation

Shaving can cause razor bumps and rashes that look bad, often hurt and of course itch. If done correctly, waxing shouldn’t hurt too much, and will leave your skin smooth without irritation. If you have sensitive skin, you may turn a little red, but not for long. Whenever I get my eyebrows waxed the area turns red, and itches a little, but I immediately go home, wash my face, and it no longer itches. It’s important to avoid irritation, especially in areas that are already sensitive.

3

No Stubble

After shaving, my legs would only remain smooth, literally, for a day.. I would usually shave when I showered in the morning and by the end of the day I had a little stubble and my legs were no longer smooth. The first time I waxed my legs I think they remained smooth for almost two weeks before I saw any signs of hair growth, which was great. I hated having to shave every two days because of stubble, so I traded shaving for waxing.

4

Hair Grows Back Finer

Unlike shaving, waxing results in finer hair growth. Shaving is like trimming your split ends; it causes hair to grow and become thicker because shaving only cuts the hair down. For the hair on your head that’s great, but for areas you don’t want hair to be, you don’t want it to grow back longer and thicker. Because waxing removes the entire hair from the follicle, an entirely new hair is forced to grow back. It will be much thinner and take much longer to grow back.

5

No Scars

It seems like shaving is much faster than waxing, but if you want to avoid nicks and cuts you have to take your time. Waxing can be done quickly without the worry of cutting yourself and leaving scars. If you don’t have time to get waxed at a salon, there are home wax kits that will cost you about that same as for a one time professional waxing. To stay scar free from shaving, give wax a chance.

Wax is Natural

Waxing leaves the skin silky and smooth feeling for quite a bit of time, because wax has natural ingredients in it. While removing hair, wax also exfoliates the areas you want to rid of hair. Shaving doesn’t benefit your skin in any way, and actually takes a very thin layer of skin off every time you shave.

7

Permanent Hair Removal

If you wax long enough you will notice that your hair grows back, not only slower, but much thinner and finer. Like I said before, waxing removes the entire hair not just part of it. This weakens your hair follicles and results in permanent damage to the follicle. This sounds bad but it’s actually good for areas that you don’t want hair. After waxing for so long, you won’t have to worry about hair growth anymore. Don’t expect it to happen after waxing a few times though as it takes years for that to happen.

If you already wax you know how great it can be, but if not you should try it! Whether you get it done professionally or do it yourself, it can be quick and easy. Think you can handle the smooth and silky skin that comes with waxing?

Where Thoughts and Opinions Converge

@Holly Wilson, how? sounds interesting.

I've tried waxing twice, both done professionally, but both times my legs were covered in red bumps where they pulled the hairs out. I guess my legs are just super sensitive...

I am a licensed Esthetician and a Certified Body Sugaring Specialist. Sugar is a all natural alternative to wax. It's kept warmed to body temp so no possibility of burns and can grab the hair at 1/8th of an inch so no need to grow leg hair or any other body or facial hair out long enough to wax!!! It's an amazing way to stay hair free!!! My clients claim it hurts less than waxing or plucking and they get an average of 2 weeks longer before any regrowth appears!!!! If you've never tried it, give it a whirl!!! Find someone certified though as they have taken advanced training to learn this hair removal technique!! You just may find a new alternative to shaving and waxing!!

Waxing is really good but it's very painful
