1

Moisturizing

Moisturizing is probably the biggest of all of these 9 beauty blunders! Sure soap and water are good for ridding your face of the day’s makeup, but moisturizing your skin is just as important. Using a moisturizer both day and night will replenish and hydrate your skin. In addition to that, it is a good step to take before applying foundation, and some moisturizers even contain SPF to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays.

2

Throwing out Expired Makeup

Makeup, like many other things we use in our daily life, tend to expire.Just like jugs of milk from a supermarket, makeup too has a "best by" date. Mascara has a shelf life of about 2 to 3 months, while foundation and concealers have a shelf life of 6 months to a year. If you’re not too sure about the shelf life of some of your cosmetics, don’t fret; sites like checkcosmetic.net allow you to look up the shelf life of your makeup by brand and batch code!

Cleaning Your Makeup Brushes

If you’re anything like me, you own a boatload of makeup brushes and applicators. Until recently, I never saw a reason to clean them on a regular basis. I always thought to myself, "What’s the point if I’m just going to use it again for the same purpose?" Cleaning your makeup brushes is super important, especially for those of us who have sensitive skin and are prone to breakouts. After months of daily use, your brushes contain bacteria and dead skin cells that can cause breakouts. Cleaning your brushes is a simple solution to the problem, and can be easily done either by purchasing an affordable brush cleaner solution or shampoo.

4

Sleeping in Your Makeup

We've all done it, probably more often than we would like to admit, but it happens. Sleeping in your makeup can result in clogged pores and even breakouts! It’s best to remove your makeup and apply a light moisturizer before bed to allow your skin to breathe, not to mention it’ll leave your skin feeling and looking rejuvenated in the morning. It’s okay to forget to remove your makeup every once and a while, but for better looking skin in the morning, and more youthful looking skin in the long run, removing your makeup is vital. Your makeup can be easily removed with makeup remover or wipes which are both affordable and convenient options.

5

Over-Washing Your Hair

Washing your hair is an important part of hygiene, but sometimes too much of a good thing can be bad for you. Washing your hair too frequently can strip your hair of its natural oils and can damage your hair. It’s important for you to know your hair type, whether it be fine, coarse, dry or oily and choose a hair-washing routine that suits your needs. Try to skip a few washes and I’m sure you’ll notice a complete 360 in the health and look of your hair in as little as just a few weeks!

Not Using Heat Protectant

I’m extremely guilty of this beauty blunder as well! I used to believe that my hair was strong enough to withstand my weekly blow drying and straightening and would skimp on heat protectant all the time. Now it's clear to me that heat protectant is an important step in your hair care regimen because it prevents breakage, damage and frizziness in your hair without drying it out one bit. Another reason to invest in some heat protectant is that it’s super affordable and can be found for prices as low as $3!

7

Pumping Your Mascara

We’ve all done this one as well, trust me. We’re getting ready in the mirror and we pump our mascara wand in and out of the bottle hoping to get more product onto the wand. Little did we know, this little trick is actually a really HUGE blunder! Pumping your mascara over and over again not only causes your mascara to dry out faster but it also introduces lots of bacteria to your mascara, and can cause some major clumps in your mascara. So, if you want you mascara to last and to give you beautiful and clump-free lashes up until the very last application, do yourself a favor and stop pumping ladies!

8

Exfoliating

This next blunder is commonly both overdone and underdone. Exfoliating is essential for nearly every part of your body, including your lips and face. It removes the dead skin cells from your body and can reveal beautiful, smooth and glowing skin underneath. A good rule of thumb for exfoliating is once or twice a week. Exfoliating too often can cause severe dryness of the skin and irritation. If you’re like me and have sensitive skin, I recommend exfoliating once a week just to be on the safe side!

9

Applying Conditioner

I always thought that you apply conditioner to your hair just like you do shampoo, but not anymore! Conditioner should be used primarily on the ends of your hair rather than at your scalp. Applying conditioner all over is just over- treating your hair and weighing it down. So the next time you go to wash your hair, try just applying conditioner to your hair from the ears down and see if you notice a difference in the look and feel of your hair!

Have you ever made any of these blunders? I know I sure have. The bright side is that its never too late to correct these little mishaps. I’m sure that if you make a little change in your beauty routine to avoid these beauty blunders you’ll notice all sorts of improvements in your skin and hair. What is your number one beauty blunder?

Where Thoughts and Opinions Converge

Sleeping in make-up is almost as bad as going to bed without brushing/flossing your teeth. I'm too much of a hygiene freak to do that haha.

Pumping mascara and applying conditioner all over hair. No wonder my hair is so limp

I don't know what to do because I try moisturizer and it always breaks me out...

Good to know about the conditioner. I will definitely try using it from my ears down next time

Just found out I've been applying conditioner wrong...thanks for this!

I was doing so well till I came to the 'pumping your mascara' blunder! Never knew that! Thanks! X

What if you hair is short and doesn't go past your ears?

To be honest Ive exfoliated every morning and night for the past year and my skin has never looked better
