Beauty Tricks That Will Keep You Ahead of the Game ...

Applying makeup isn’t enough these days, you have to know all the beauty tricks that go along with it! Although we should all only wear makeup to enhance our natural beauty and not hide it, it doesn’t hurt to know a few tips to help us look our best. Here are a few beauty tricks to help you look A-list.

1 Perfume

One of my favourite beauty tricks is to spray perfume in your hair. Hair retains odour (that’s why it’s a good idea to keep certain areas of the body hair-free) throughout the day. However, fragrances eventually fade away when sprayed on to the skin. To make sure you smell good all day without repeatedly applying on fragrances or deodorants, spritz your hair with your favourite fragrance.

Frequently asked questions

2 Lemon Juice

Have a mark that you can’t hide with concealer? Try lemon juice! Lemon juice is a natural lightener and can lighten a blemish or mark on your skin. However, you have to be careful when using lemon juice on your skin. Typically, you should apply freshly squeezed lemon juice on to a clean Q-tip. Then, gently press the Q-tip on your problem area only for a few seconds (no more than 5). Even if you don’t see any immediate results, do not repeat the step. Instead, wait at least 24 hours until you repeat the process. Sometimes results take a few hours to show. In addition, if you apply too much lemon juice for too long you will irritate your skin. Also, you might lighten the mark so much that you will have a white spot on your face rather than a dark spot.

3 Mouthwash

Mouthwash has alcohol in it (hence the burning sensation when you use it). Furthermore, alcohol dries skin up! Thus, using mouth wash when you have a breakout is a quick home remedy to rid your skin of minor breakouts by drying out your pimples. However, try to avoid mouthwashes that are flavoured such as mint, cinnamon, vanilla, etc... Fragrances and artificial flavours in mouthwash can irritate the skin. Instead, try to use mouthwashes that are not flavoured. Also, after washing your face with mouthwash make sure to hydrate your skin with an intensive lotion to prevent further breakouts. Finally, mouthwashes are more ideal than the more common acne fighting home remedy of toothpaste – toothpaste, if left on for too long, can leave chemical burns on your skin.

4 Bold Lips

Love the colour of your lipstick when it’s in the tube but not so much when it’s on your lips? If you want lipstick that’s true to what you see in the packaging, apply concealer on your lips before applying lipstick. Applying concealer on your lips will create a clean base for your lipstick thus making it brighter, bolder and closer to the colour you see in the tube.

5 Instant Nose Job

I hate my nose – I find my nose to be too round and too flat. Most people, both men and women, I meet aren’t too fond of their noses either. If you’re like the most of us and hate your nose you have two options. You can either get a nose job that’s painful, expensive and runs the risk of going wrong. Or, you can contour your nose using cosmetics. Using the same idea that makeup artists use to contour cheekbones and jaw lines, you can contour your nose to look longer, thinner or sharper.

6 Tight Line

If you have sparse or thin lashes, you probably have always coveted thick eyelashes. Lash inserts are a good option but are expensive and need to be done routinely. Although not as drastic as lash inserts, a cheaper alternative is to tightline your upper eyelash waterline. To tightline means to apply eyeliner (preferably waterproof, pencil eyeliner) to your upper eyelash waterline (right at the roots of the eyelashes) to get rid of the whiteness of the waterline. Tight lining helps to hide the spaces or sparseness between the eyelashes thus giving the illusion that you have a thicker lash line and ultimately thicker eyelashes.

7 Work Those Angles

Next time you apply eye shadow, take some tape and apply it at the edge of your eyelids (have the strip of tape connect from the outer corner of your eye to the edge of your eyebrow). Apply your eye shadow and then peel of the tape. You’ll find that your eye shadow looks much neater. However, if the edge of your eye shadow (when you peel the tape off) looks too sharp you can always take a small brush and blend the line to soften it.

Physiologically, we’re happier when we’re closer to being our ideal selves. Although we have many goals for our career and lives, we also have superficial goals for ourselves as well such as losing or gaining weight, toning up or getting “work done”. However, there are also little beauty tricks that help you look closer to the way you want to! What are some other beauty tricks you know of?
