DIY Facelift

One of the beauty tips that I had to share with you is the DIY facelift! There are 3 different concoctions to make; a smoothing exfoliator, a tightening toner and a plumping moisturizer facial mask, but they all contain 4 ingredients or less. Why go out and pay for these products when you can make your own!
Step 1: Smoothing Exfoliator
Ingredients:
1 tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp extra virgin olive oil
Directions:
Mix together the brown sugar and olive oil to create a paste. Apply to face and massage for a few minutes. Rinse off with warm water. The brown sugar will smooth out skin while the olive oil moisturizes.
Step 2: Tightening Toner
Ingredients:
1 cup rose water
1 tsp lemon juice
1 tsp witch hazel
5 drops almond essential oil
Directions:
Combine the ingredients together and mix well. Dab the mixture your face with a cotton ball and wait for it to dry. Both the witch hazel and rosewater are astringents, which tighten and shrink pores. The almond oil has antioxidants that help skin with building new cells.
Step 3: Plumping Moisturizing Facial Mask
Ingredients:
2 tbsp of your favorite moisturizer
1 egg white
2 pinches turmeric
1 tsp Manuka honey
Directions:
Mix the moisturizer, egg white, turmeric and honey together to make a paste. Apply to the face evenly, avoiding the eyes, and leave the mask on for 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water. The egg white tightens, while the turmeric and honey stimulates the skin and plumps it up, helping to build collagen to create a smoother look.

Avoid the Triangle of Death

One of the more startling beauty tips from Dr. Oz is to avoid popping pimples in the area from the tip of your nose to the edge of your lips. He calls this area the triangle of death because the pus in pimples from that area don’t come out but instead go into blood vessels, which go into your brain. Sounds pretty scary, right? Let's remember this tip and tell everyone we know about the triangle of death!

3

Weatherproof Beauty

Dr. Oz’s beauty tips also include ways to weatherproof your skin, hair and lips. When you’re shopping for lotion, lip balm, and shampoo there are some key ingredients to look out for. If you tend to have dry lips, look for lip balms with shea butter. To trap and hold in moisture in your hair, look for creamy shampoos that contain panthenol, which is less harsh than other typical shampoo ingredients. For soft hands, search for kaolin, which is a disinfectant and naturally effective in moisturizing skin.

4

Learn Key Words

Dr. Oz also recommend that when you’re looking for beauty products that you learn some of the fancy aliases of common ingredients. Some marketing companies like to dress up names of vitamins, so when you read the label the list of ingredients might look fancy and foreign but they really aren’t. Some key words to look for on products are retin which has a Vitamin A, ascorbic acid which denotes Vitamin C and tocopherol which signifies Vitamin E, all of these vitamins are vital to skin's health.

Natural Beauty

Dr. Oz had a segment where his viewers submitted their own beauty tips and he put them to the test. One of the home beauty tips that got the thumbs up from the good doctor was mixing aspirin and fresh lemon juice as a blemish buster. Care to try it out? Take 6-10 aspirin tablets and crush them into powder, mix it with fresh lemon juice and let it dissolve for 5-10 minutes. Apply it to a pimple and remove the paste with a cotton ball soaked in baking soda and water. Aspirin contains salicylic acid that helps reduce acne and the Vitamin C from the lemon juice works as an antioxidant.

Pina Colada Bath

Another viewer beauty tip that was a winner from Dr. Oz was a homemade Pina Colada bath! A bonus of this natural beauty recipe is that you can make a yummy smoothie with the leftover ingredients! For the bath, add 1 can of pineapple rings, 1 can of coconut milk, 2 cups of powdered milk and 1/2 cup of soy milk to a bath of warm water. For the drink, combine the juice that remains from the pineapple rings, along with 4 tbsp of coconut milk and 1/2 cup of soy milk. Blend with ice and bring it with you into the bath to sip on!

7

Fountain of Youth

This list of beauty tips had to include a drink because you know like a true doctor, Dr. Oz believes that beauty starts from the inside. Dr. Oz has his own Green Drink, but he had fellow doctor Rovenia Brock on his show to share her own Fountain of Youth drink recipe. She is 56 years old but looks more like 36, who wouldn't want to take advice from her!
Ingredients:
1 cup coconut water
2-3 wheatgrass ice cubes (juice fresh wheatgrass and freeze)
2 handfuls spinach
3 pineapple spears
1/2 lemon, peeled
1 small green apple
1 tbsp ginger
Direction:
Pour all ingredients into a blender, blend to desired consistency, and enjoy!

Cheat Sheet

In addition to just beauty tips, Dr. Oz provided us with a beauty cheat sheet so we can avoid certain common yet dangerous ingredients in makeup. Despite the popularity of mineral makeup, Dr. Oz highly discourages the use of mineral powders because they contain mica, which can be inhaled and long term inhalation into the lungs causes inflammation and lung disease.

9

Glossy Lips

The last beauty tip is to avoid any lip product that contains petroleum. Did you know that many lip products that leave a nice glossy sheen to your lips contain petroleum? The danger of petroleum is that it's a byproduct of oil drilling and when you lick or eat the gloss covered in petroleum off of your lips, it’s like eating gasoline! The amount of petroleum you ingest can add up, so start reading labels carefully on lip products!

Who would’ve thought that Dr. Oz would provide us with so many great beauty tips?! I love getting beauty tips from beauty experts but I also love getting a medical expert’s take on beauty as well. Do you think you’ll try out any of these beauty recipes or tips?

Cool!

Yeah I was confused about the petroleum part too! I thought vaseline was pretty natural and not that damaging for you....

I find that "avoid lip balms with petroleum" part kind of shocked me because I found here that you can use petroleum jelly as a good lip balm? It's not like we eat our lip balms?
