For some of us, the fight against acne is a never ending battle. Alda's simple but powerful home remedies will definitely help tilt the balance in your favor. Thank you Alda for a wonderful post!
1. Honey and Cinnamon
1 tsp of honey and 1 tsp of cinnamon
A lot of women suffer from acne right before their periods and I am one of the lucky few. I usually get acne about 2 weeks before my period and this miracle remedy always helps! Mix the two in equal proportions, leave in the fridge overnight and use as needed. You can even use this mixture to prevent acne. Be careful not to wear a good shirt because it does get drippy from the honey. Keep it on for a few minutes, then wash it off with warm water and wipe your face dry.
2. Lemon Juice and Garlic
I know this sounds kind of gross but I promise it really works! Use 1-2 tsp of freshly squeezed lemon juice and 1 clove of garlic. Cut the clove in half, gently rub your face with it and let it dry for a few seconds. Follow that up with the lemon juice. Leave it on for about 15 minutes. Your face may get itchy so try not to scratch it. Lastly, wash your face and wipe gently.
3. Organic Unsweetened Plain Yogurt
A good thing about having a mom that cooks everyday is a mom that makes her own yogurt. I'm in the process of learning this. As a little girl, I always saw my mom put yogurt on her face and her skin is still great and acne free. Yogurt makes your skin feel soft and fresh and also helps reduce the redness of pimples and cools it off. Simply apply the yogurt on your face, leave it on for about 20 minutes and wash it off after.
I'm sure tons of you have heard about this remedy for acne. I usually use a white toothpaste (avoid gel) before I go to bed and I let it sit overnight. Do this for a couple of nights and you will see a difference. Just a gentle reminder, only use it on affected areas and not your entire face. In the morning take a cloth with warm water and wash the toothpaste off without rubbing your face too hard.
5. Olive Oil and Brown Sugar Scrub
Olive oil alone is great for curing acne and acne scars and it also makes your skin smooth. Combining olive oil and brown sugar together makes it even better. Add ¼ cup of olive oil and add brown sugar and stir it until you see that it’s thick enough to make a scrub. Once it’s thick enough wash your face and start scrubbing your face with the scrub gently. Wash it off with warm water and see the difference instantly. Olive oil and brown sugar scrub also works for flaky, dry skin too.
6. Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is no longer just used for cooking. It makes a fantastic moisturizer and regular usage really helps with acne! Plus it smells fantastic!
7. Baking Soda
Yup baking soda is in this list of home remedies of course. Baking soda has been a great product to have at home whether you’re baking or using it to whiten your teeth but it helps with acne too. Add 1 tbsp of baking soda and warm water and mix it together to make a paste and let it sit until it’s completely dry. Sometimes the baking soda might burn when you put it in your face near the acne but that means that it’s working. Keep it for 15-30 minutes and wash it off with warm water. Dab dry.
