1

Take off Your Makeup

This first tip is pretty obvious, but I know I’m guilty of forgetting it sometimes. Remember to take off your makeup before you go to sleep. Leaving mascara on can cause your lashes to fall out prematurely, which is a big setback if you’re looking to get long and full lashes. Personally, I think this is most important tip on how to care for your eyelashes.

2

Brush Them out

Try taking a CLEAN mascara wand and running it through your lashes a few times in the morning. Just the act of brushing them out will separate the follicles and give the appearance of a fuller lash line. In the same way that disentangling your hair makes it look healthier, brushing your eyelashes will add a bit of natural flair to them. And you don’t even need mascara!

3

Condition Them

What do you do when you want your hair to look nice? You condition it! And what are eyelashes? Hair! Use another clean mascara wand, or even your fingers, and smooth some petroleum jelly over your eyelashes. This will work as a deep conditioner, and will make the lashes themselves look fuller and even grow longer. I haven’t tried it yet, but I have a friend who swears by it and her lashes do look great.

4

Don’t Rub Your Eyes

An extremely important, yet very easy tip to forget. Rubbing your eyes too roughly can pull on the roots of your eyelashes, and they’ll fall out. They won’t just start jumping out, but you’ll probably come away with two or three lashes on your fingers each time you rub hard. If your eyes are itchy, try gently patting or massaging the area.

5

Avoid Fake Eyelashes

I know, fake eyelashes are the perfect makeup tool. Pop a pair on, and you really don’t need to do anything else to your makeup. However, the glue used to put the fake lashes on can hurt your real ones by making them stick together or pulling on them as you remove the fake ones. I’m not saying ditch fake lashes altogether, because I personally love to use them. Do try to limit your use, though.

Careful with That Curler!

If you use an eyelash curler when putting on your mascara, just be very careful not to squeeze very hard. If you feel a tugging sensation on the roots of your lashes, stop! As handy as those little tools might be, they can just as easily pull out a few lashes as they can curl them.

Take a Break

There’s so much pressure for us girls to keep up our appearance. If you consistently wear makeup, it might be a little nerve-wracking to take a day off and go for a natural look. Sometimes, though, your lashes need it. Having all that mascara on every day can be a little much. Try a makeup free day! Or if you don’t want to go cold turkey, perhaps emphasize a different part of your face. Take the focus away from your eyes and give your lashes a breather.
