I love summer, sun, and tanning as much as the next person, but that doesn’t mean that we can forgo proper skincare, especially when we’re spending so much time in the sun in the summer. Even if you aren’t very fair skinned, you’d be surprised just how important skincare is in the summer. If you are fair skinned, though, you must follow these tips to ensure that you have your most painless summer yet!

Sunscreen, Sunscreen, and Yeah, More Sunscreen

I don’t have fair skin (thank you to my Italian-American parents) but I haven’t tanned much over the past few years, simply because I’m a worrier, and sun damage worries me. That means that when I recently spent the day by the water with my family, I thought I didn’t need a lot of sunscreen. I had never really needed a ton of sunscreen in the past, so why would I need it now? As it turns out, no matter what type of skin you have, if you don’t tan much, you need sunscreen. Full-body sunburn is horribly painful; please just take my word on it and don’t find out for yourself! Put sunscreen on every few hours when you do spend the day at the beach!

2

Avoid Spending Days in the Sun

However, try to avoid spending as much time in the sun as possible. If you’re going on vacation with your family or friends, limit your time in the sun. Try to spend every other day of the trip doing something that’s indoors or something that might even just require a little less time outside. Giving your skin a break is necessary when you have fair skin!

3

Invest in a Cute Hat

I’m sure you’ve heard before that one of the best ways to stay out of the sun is to wear a big hat. It’s your lucky summer, though, because big, summer hats are so in style this year! Find a hat that looks so cute on you and wear it to the beach. Not only will you save your skin, but you’ll add such a chic touch to your look!

4

Don’t Obsess over Getting a Tan

Everyone wants to have a sun-kissed summer glow. However, you don’t need to obsess it over by any means. Rather than worry about getting a tan, worry about not getting sunburnt. There are so many other ways that you can get a sun-kissed summer glow without dealing with the sunburn that probably comes along with that!

5

Try Self-Tanning

If you want a tan but know that it’s probably not a feasible option for your skin tone, don’t try getting sunburnt in hopes that it will turn into a tan. Instead, just try self-tanning. Whether you go to a tanning salon, a spray tan booth, or you even just by the tanning lotion from the grocery store, with some practice, it will look like the perfect summer tan!

Don’t Forget Your Lips

Sunburnt lips are a thing, and they hurt. However, lips are often an afterthought when it comes to skincare in the sun. If you’re worried that you’ll forget to wear sunscreen on your lips, make it easy on yourself! Simply find a lipstick, balm, or gloss that has SPF in it. You’d be surprised just how many have them, and you’ll never forget your favorite lipstick when going to the beach!

End the Day with a Cold Shower

Even if you don’t think you got burnt after your day outside, end your day with a cold shower. It will cool your body down, and hopefully stop any sunburn from developing. If you do burn, the cold shower will cool your body down and hopefully stop the sunburn before it starts peeling!

What are your tips for taking care of your skin in the summer and avoiding sunburn? Let me know in the comments!

Where Thoughts and Opinions Converge

Sunscreen is so important, not just in the summer but all year round,I don't go outside during the day in the summer,I either go out early in the morning or wait until it's closer to sundown, plus I honestly just hate the heat and summer

Everyone should wear sunscreen. Though darker pigmented skin contains more melatonin-everyone is capable of contracting skin cancer.

Nice article thanks
