Long lashes are something that most girls want, right? Too bad little kids and men are the ones who get them most often, right? My sons have the most fabulous lashes I’ve ever seen and it makes me so jealous. Turns out you can do some things to make your lashes longer and lusher. Once you add these things to your routine, you will start to see better looking lashes in virtually no time at all.
1 Never Sleep with Eye Makeup on
Before you hit the sack each night, you should definitely be washing off all of your makeup. This keeps skin healthy and prevents breakouts. However, removing eye shadow, liner and mascara is especially helpful for growing your lashes. They need proper care and a chance to breathe so they stay healthy and long.
2 Start Brushing Your Eyelashes on a Regular Basis
Much like combing your hair helps it grow, doing the same for your lashes can help make them longer and lusher. The experts suggest combing your lashes on a regular basis, at least a couple of times per week. Use a comb specifically designed for lashes so that you don’t pull them out or break them.
3 Get More Vitamin E in Your Diet
Studies show that vitamin E helps accelerate the growth of your eyelashes so it makes sense to get more in your meal plan. Nuts and seeds are prime sources of vitamin E, but if you want more than they offer, talk to your doctor about adding a vitamin E supplement to your diet to help you get where you want to be.
4 Get an Eyelid Massage
OK, you’ll need to do this yourself because an eyelid massage isn’t a common treatment found in salons. Massage helps stimulate the blood flow in your eyelids, which translates to longer and fuller lashes. You don’t need to do this all the time, but once a week or so certainly helps improve the health of your follicles, which in turn boosts the health of your lashes.
5 Put Petroleum Jelly on Your Lashes
Research says that petroleum jelly, also known as Vaseline, helps promote the growth or your lashes, making them look fuller and longer as well as improving the overall health of them. Apply a small bit of petroleum jelly to your lashes just before going to bed and let it work its magic while you sleep. Perfect!
6 Natural Oils Contain Nutrients for Growth
Like the rest of your body, your lashes need certain vitamins and minerals to promote health and growth. In addition to making healthy diet choices, you can also pump each lash full of those nutrients by applying natural oils to them. Choose from coconut, avocado, olive and jojoba oil and apply it to your lashes on a regular basis.
7 Use Lash Lengthening Mascara
Many cosmetic companies sell mascara that contains ingredients you help your lashes look longer. They may give them a bit of length, but if nothing else works, you can at least create the illusion of mile long lashes. All you have to do is swipe the mascara on just as you would your normal product. Lash lengthening mascara costs a bit more than your average tube, but the benefits make it totally worth it.
8 InVest in a Good Curler
You've got to make sure the curler you're using fits your eye shape in the most perfect way possible to maximize its effect on your lashes. There's tons on the market today so it might take some trial and error to get the right one but when you do, you'll know.
9 Warm up Your Curler
Put your curler under warm water for a few seconds and you'll be amazed at all the difference it can make on your lashes! If you feel like investing, they even make curlers that heat up on their own like a flat iron. :)
10 Thin out ClUmpy Mascara
There's nothing worse than grabbing your mascara and pulling the wand out with a bunch of clumps on it. Stick the tube in a cup of warm-hot water or even drop a couple drops of eye drops right on in and watch the clumps disappear. And make sure you aren't pumping your wand! It creates clumps and wears your mascara out quicker by trapping air inside. :)
