1

Seasonal Switch

When you’re spring cleaning your beauty routine, one of the first steps you want to take is to toss out the old. This means products that are old as well as those that are no longer season appropriate. Typically, most skin types prefer a lighter moisturizer and a deeper cleaning face wash in warm weather, but then again you might find that you can use the same products all year!

2

Trim down

If you’re not already in the habit of getting regular trims, now would be a great time! Getting regular trims helps get rid of split ends and dry hair. Also, if you regularly put your hair up in a towel or dry your hair with a towel, it could be time for a change. Rubbing your hair with a towel or piling wet hair tightly up in a towel can actually damage or cause hair to frizz. Squeeze out excess water gently from your hair instead of rubbing it and put your hair up in a cotton T-shirt, which is much gentler on wet strands.

3

Tool Time

A couple of other tips on cleaning up your hair routine are to check your brush and give your blow dryer a rest. Check out your brush and see if there are broken or missing bristles. Maybe it just needs a good cleaning or it might be time to replace it. Also, since the weather is getting warmer, why not let your hair air dry and give your blow dryer a break for awhile?

4

Lighten up

Another way to clean up your beauty routine is lighten up on makeup. As much as I like good coverage, I try to tone down my makeup when the weather gets warmer. Doing so not only feels better but looks much more natural and it takes less time! Try using a tinted moisturizer, tinted lip balm and switch out dark and heavy eye makeup for fresher, lighter colors! You can still wear lots of spring-y colors without using a lot of products!

5

Don’t Overexfoliate

Exfoliating is a very important step in our beauty routine and while we want our skin in its best shape for spring, we don’t want to overdo it! Most derms will recommend exfoliating no more than once or twice a week. Exfoliating more than that can cause oilier skin to produce more oil or you could dry out or irritate your skin!

Makeover Your Makeup Bag

Makeup artist Sonia Kashuk recommends cleaning out your makeup bag and keeping seasonal staples in separate bags. We all know how easily makeup can break or spill out, so it’s important to keep our makeup bags clean and sanitary since we’re applying these products to our faces. Clean your makeup bag and be sure to toss any old or broken products!

7

Acne Tactics

If you get occasional breakouts or have acne-prone skin, spring is a good time to step up your acne regimen. Most acne-prone skin tends to be oily and skin usually gets oilier in the spring and summer. Be proactive in your beauty routine by starting or stepping up your acne treatments now since acne can be much more present when it’s warmer.

8

Up Your SPF

Another thing you don’t want to forget while you spring clean your beauty routine is to increase the SPF in your skin care or sun protection products. In the wintertime, we can get away with using skin care products with a lower SPF like 15. But in the spring we need to bump it up SPF 30 or more since we spend more time outdoors and in the sun.

Making some adjustments to your beauty routine doesn’t have to be difficult or time-consuming. It’s always a good idea to toss out or recycle old or products you no longer use periodically. Do you spring clean your beauty routine?

Who uses sun cream in winter?

I live in a very sunny place, so I use it every day. But really, everyone should use sunscreen. It protects your skin from damage! Who wouldn't want that?
