7 Truths about Beauty You Discover as an Adult ...

By Alicia

As a woman in my 30s, I can look back and see a lot of things I wish I’d done differently in regards to beauty. If I could, I’d give my younger self these pieces of advice. I can’t do that but maybe you can benefit from them. These are some beauty truths you discover as an adult.

1

Protect Your Skin with Sunscreen & Careful Sun Exposure

My biggest beauty regret is the time I spent baking in the sun. That very temporary tan wasn’t worth it. Tans fade and wrinkles appear earlier with unprotected sun exposure. I wish I’d never, ever exposed my skin to the sun without protection. Sunscreen not only keeps your skin looking young and beautiful, but it helps protect you from skin cancer as well.

Healthy Foods Not Only Make You Feel Better, They Make You Look Better

Here’s the thing about eating healthy. Not only does it make you feel better and have better health, it makes you look better. When you’re eating a diet of fruit, veggies, low-fat dairy, lean protein and whole grains, your body will reflect that. Your skin and hair will have a healthy glow and your figure will be naturally slender. That’s a great self-esteem boost, too.

3

Never Skip Washing Your Face at Night

This is another beauty blunder I made. There were a few years when my children were babies that I wasn’t nearly as vigilant as I should’ve been about washing my makeup off at bedtime. Young moms are often exhausted by the time bedtime rolls around. If you’re at this stage or another that’s leaving you extremely tired, then don’t make the same mistake I did. Wash your makeup off earlier in the evening, before you fall asleep with it on.

4

Don’t Feel Guilty about Buying the Lipstick

Don’t feel guilty about buying the lipstick or whatever it is that makes you feel lovely. Unless you have dozens of the same product, you’ll probably use it. It’s worth the price if it makes you feel more attractive or confident. This holds true even if it’s a high end product that costs a little more. It’s important to treat yourself from time to time.

5

Accentuate Your Best Features

When you’re young, you’re still figuring out what makeup looks best on you and experimenting a lot. Looking back, I would tell myself to accentuate my best feature and downplay the rest of my makeup. It’s perfectly okay to switch up your look and I still do that at times. But it’s good to figure out how your makeup looks best and what feature to call attention to. It’s usually your eyes or lips but it could be your cheekbones or eyebrows, too.

Take Time to Apply Lotion No Matter How Busy Your Day is

If you don’t wear lotion, it may seem like it takes so much time to apply. That’s what I used to think. But I promise, once you begin wearing it regularly, it just becomes part of your routine. Lotion smells lovely, softens your skin and makes you feel delightfully feminine. It’s definitely worth the small amount of time it takes to apply.

You Have a Unique Beauty

Lastly, you need to know this beauty truth. You have a unique beauty. Each woman is pretty in her own unique way. Don’t waste your life wishing for a different look; be confident in yourself. I learned to stop wishing I could change things about myself and start appreciating my uniqueness.

These are 7 beauty truths you discover as you become an adult. What’re your thoughts on this subject? Do you have anything to add?

Where Thoughts and Opinions Converge

Don't wear eye liner! It gave me puffy eyes.. :(

Aw this list made me smile! I'm the pale friend so whenever my friends and I are suntanning I bring the sunscreen and make sure everyone uses it xp

I was a lifeguard for 5 years and I swear I looked so much older!! People even asked if I was a mom! Your skin looks stressed! Now that I'm not under sun exposure people tend to think I look younger! The sun can really damage your skin! Protect yourself!

I honestly wish I hadn't started wearing makeup so young. Perhaps I wouldn't suffer with acne and I'd have naturally mile long lashes.

I agree with all of these. Great article!
