7 Ways to Get Rid of Ingrown Hair Once and for All ...

Out of all of the different ways to get rid of ingrown hair, there isn’t really one specifically that will definitely work for you but a mix of them should alleviate the problem all together. Ingrown hair is hair that curls around and grows back into your skin instead of rising up from it. While it is nothing serious, it can definitely be bothersome and embarrassing. However not to worry, this is a common problem and fortunately there are ways to get rid of ingrown hair once and for all!

1 Exfoliate

One of the first ways to get rid of ingrown hair is to gently exfoliate the area twice a day. Sometimes the cause of ingrown hair can be dead skin that clogs up the hair follicles. This forces the hair inside to grow sideways under the skin instead of upwards. Scrubbing the area around ingrown hair can get rid of this problem by removing the dead skin cells and dirt that might be trapping the hair and it can also physically nudge the tip of the hair out of your skin.

2 Hot Compress

If you can see the embedded hair under your skin, hot compresses can bring it closer to the surface by softening the skin. Just wet a washcloth with hot water and press it against your ingrown hair. When the washcloth cools down, repeat the process and continue this cycle for a few minutes. Once you see the hair coming up to the surface gently remove it with sterilized tweezers.

3 Use Tweezers

If your ingrown hair is already on the surface and almost peeking out, it would be a good idea to guide it to the top with a sterile needle or tweezers. When you make sure that your hair is out of the skin, it is up to you to completely pluck it out or just let it grow out correctly. However avoid digging for the hair as you can cause a lot of damage to the skin and hair follicles.

4 Egg Membrane

For something that is usually thrown out with the shell, egg membrane lining actually has very interesting uses. For one, you can use it to remove your ingrown hairs! Just remove the membrane from inside an eggshell, cover the problem area with it and leave it there to dry. Once dry, gently pull it off and the ingrown hair should come with it!

5 Aloe Vera

If your skin is already noticeably irritated due to the ingrown hair, aloe vera can greatly reduce the redness and inflammation. Just apply aloe vera gel to the infected area twice a day without washing it off. This can actually inhibit the development of ingrown hair in the future and even treat it in some cases.

6 Acne Medication

Often times ingrown hair can highly resemble pimples, especially when it is accompanied by pus and inflammation, which is why acne medication can alleviate the problem. For example benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid will reduce swelling, giving the hair more room to grow out to the surface.

7 Aspirin

It might come as a surprise but aspirin is known to be very effective in treatment of ingrown hair since it contains salicylic acid, which is naturally an excellent exfoliator for the skin. All you need to do is crush a few tablets, mix them with oil and apply the mixture to the affected area for a few minutes. If used regularly, this treatment should do the trick.

Ingrown hair is a common problem for men and women, which is why it is always best to prevent the problem before you are faced with it. Ingrown hair can cause a lot of skin irritations and can furthermore become infected. What are some of your secret ways of dealing with ingrown hair?
