You might be surprised to learn that there are many factors in how your diet affects your beauty. What you choose to put into your mouth at mealtime most certainly plays a role in many aspects of your looks. Now don’t get me wrong, even horrible eaters can still be beautiful, but if you’re struggling with bad skin, dull hair or myriad other issues, making simple tweaks to your diet can really help. So without further ado, here are some of the top things to consider when it comes to how your diet affects your beauty.

Weight

Before I get too far into this, I want to make it absolutely clear that beauty comes in all sizes. This part of my list has more to do with the health complications that accompany being overweight as well as the self-esteem issues that come into play. This is one of the biggest things that play into how your diet affects your beauty. If you don’t feel good about your weight or are suffering health complications as a result of it, it pays to work with your doctor about cutting calories and shedding some of those pounds that are messing with you. Feeling confident will only make you more beautiful than you already are!

Radiant Skin

Your skin relies on a well-balanced diet made up of foods from each of the food groups. If you only very rarely eat fruits and vegetables, for example, you may be low on key nutrients that support healthy skin. Same goes for whole grains and lean protein. A nutrient deficient diet can certainly leave you with dry, cracked skin. So pump your meals full of all the good stuff and you’ll see a change soon after.

Shiny Hair

Much like your skin, your hair needs plenty of healthy foods to stay strong, shiny and healthy. Many of the foods that support healthy skin also contribute to healthy hair so you can kill two birds with one stone. Hooray!

Strong Nails

Coincidentally, the same goes for your nails. Because your hair, skin and nails are all made up of essentially the same components, in different forms, they all can benefit or suffer based on the things you eat. To keep your nails strong and healthy, eat foods with protein like low-fat dairy, eggs and lean meats. Supplement them with whole grains like brown rice and oatmeal and lots of fruits and vegetables.

Good Looking Muscles

Muscles need adequate nutrition just like the rest of your body. Protein is the biggest nutrient that plays a role in how your muscles look. You want to get enough to help your muscles function so you can build and strengthen with exercise while also helping them recover afterward. Since a toned body is often equated with beauty, you definitely want to pay attention to your muscles.

Mood

Ever noticed how putting a smile on your face instantly makes you more attractive? Well, it turns out that eating a healthy diet is an important way to keep your mood balanced so that smile isn’t compromised. Fueling your body with nutritious foods makes you feel healthy as well as making you feel good about making healthy choices. That’s definitely something to smile about!

Spurs Other Good Choices

When you make healthy eating choices, you naturally feel good about yourself. That is a great way to make you want to make beauty changes elsewhere. Maybe you finally go for the face framing haircut you want or you experiment with make-up that makes you feel as gorgeous as you are. Whatever it is, eating right can make many parts of your life better.

Where Thoughts and Opinions Converge

How come in the first one about weight you shy away from talking about under eating and needing to add calories? Both extremes are a problem, even if we don't talk about needing to gain weight nearly as much as needing to lose weight. Not consuming enough calories or proper foods is just as bad as eating too many calories (this is of course on a regular basis, over eating that weekend you went out with your friend or under eating that day you had to study for finals is different from over or under eating on a regular basis) as someone who struggles with under eating I think the reason it becomes a problem is because it's not addressed enough.

Though everything you said in this post are true, I feel both sides should be included.
