Read Labels Carefully Because You May Not Know What You’re Using

Anytime you’re trying to avoid an ingredient or group of ingredients, it’s very important to read labels so that you can be sure you’re getting a product that fits your needs. You might be surprised to find that some products are actually vegan even if they aren’t claiming to be on the package. At the same time, you might find that something contains animal products when you don’t expect it to.

2

Vegan Products Are Usually Cruelty Free

Just because a product isn’t vegan doesn’t mean it was made with cruelty to animals. However, if you want to be absolutely sure your products aren’t tested on animals, you probably want to buy vegan ones. At the same time, a vegan product won’t contain any animal products, but that doesn’t necessarily guarantee that it wasn’t used on animals to see how it works, though most vegan companies don’t test on animals. If you ever want to know more about how a product is made, call the manufacturer and ask.

3

Plant Based Products Are Often More Effective than Animal Based Ones

This isn’t always true, but for many girls, plant products are more effective on their skin. This may be because they contain more natural ingredients than those that have animal ingredients. However, keep in mind that just because a product is vegan doesn’t guarantee that it will work better for you. You’ll still have to experiment with them to find the best one for your skin.

4

Beeswax is Something You Might Want to Avoid

Beeswax is found inside a bee’s hive and is used in many products, including lipstick. It helps the products hold their shape, but is also beneficial for skin. However, it may be considered an animal product by some people. It comes from the bees, so you might consider it an animal product. Although bees aren’t generally abused to produce it so you might be able to make an exception with this one.

5

Look for Ingredients That Might Not Be Evident

When you read a skincare product’s label, you may encounter names you don’t know. While they may sound like they are animal free, some of them are not. For example, carmine is made from crushed insects and collagen is made from dead animals. Guanine comes from fish scales and lanolin comes from sheep wool. Decide how far you want to take the vegan thing so that you can avoid the ingredients that don’t mesh with your beliefs or preferences.

Some Animal Products Are Beneficial for Your Skin and Don’t Hurt the Animals

To be truly vegan, a product must not contain any animal products. However, things like honey and goat’s milk don’t harm the animals that produce them and can have substantial benefits for your skin. There is no promise that the animals were treated well, but you might want to consider this before you go completely vegan.
