7 Things to Know about Invisalign Braces ...

Eliza

I had to wear braces as an adult, but was unfortunately not a candidate for the Invisalign braces. Imagine this – I had two kids when I got the braces off. That’s living life backwards, am I right? Anyway, if you have recently learned that you’ll need to wear braces, it pays to talk to your orthodontist about the nearly invisible braces that can get the job done without being so obvious. In the meantime, here are some things to understand about Invisalign braces so you’re ready to make the best choice for your teeth.

1. They Fit over Your Teeth

Unlike traditional braces, the Invisalign braces are more like molds of your teeth and fit snugly over them. You’ll change out the actual braces several times as your teeth move and rotate where they need to be. With regular braces, they are stuck to your teeth and are tightened periodically to move your teeth. I can’t guarantee that the invisible ones are more comfortable, but at least you won’t have a metal mouth while you suffer.

2. Treats Many Conditions

While Invisalign braces aren’t appropriate for every orthodontic patient, they can be used to treat several issues. According to the experts, they can help with both crowding and spacing in your mouth. They are also effective options if you have an overbite or underbite, while also straightening teeth throughout the process.

3. You Can Eat

If you’ve ever had braces in the past, you know all about the list of foods you’ll have to stay away from. If not, get ready for that when you get traditional braces. On the other hand, choosing Invisalign means you can enjoy most of your favorite foods even while using the braces. You can eat and drink whatever you want because the braces come out when they need to.

4. They’re Removable

Speaking of, you can take the Invisalign braces out when you want or need to, which is why you don’t have to alter your diet. It’s true that the more you wear the device, the faster your teeth transformation will be finished. However, having the option of taking the device out now and then can make the entire braces process a bit more appealing and comfortable and a little less sucky.

5. Won’t Get in the Way of Brushing

When I had my braces removed, I had to immediately have them cleaned because the brackets make it hard to floss and brush every surface. That won’t be the case if you go for the Invisalign braces. You can remove the device in the morning and evening and get an adequate brushing and flossing in before you put it back in. Don’t I wish this was the case when I had my braces!

6. Less Irritating

If only I could convey how miserable it is to have a bracket pressing into your cheek or a loose wire cutting your gums. Invisalign braces are much easier and more comfortable to wear, eliminating some of the pain and discomfort that comes with wearing traditional braces.

7. More Expensive

In many cases, springing for the Invisalign braces will cost you more than the metal braces of yesteryear. Back when I wanted them, my insurance didn’t cover them. Nowadays, they are more common, but you might still have to shell out a bit more cash if you want them. Keep that in mind so you’re prepared to write the check.

Why do you have to wear braces? I hope you get the clear ones and that the years of orthodontist work you face won’t be as tough as mine were. Will you ask about Invisalign braces?

I loved them! I only had them for 6 months it was amazing and went by really quick. I recommend them to everyone who can't decide between them

Being a dentist, I would like to say Invisalign is significantly less noticeable than traditional braces. Due to the removable nature of Invisalign, patients also experience greater convenience, especially when eating and cleaning their teeth. However, they do rely on patient compliance and only work when they are worn. Invisalign may cost anywhere depending on the complexity of movement of teeth...

I loved my Invisalign. You have to be really stupid to not be responsible enough for them because they are simply so easy. And the results are worth the money. I only wore mine for six months and no one ever knew. And now that my teeth are straight people ask me if its natural. And as a high school student it would be embarrassing having those ugly and obnoxious metal brackets on your teeth. With Invisalign there is no embarrassment

I just got Invisalign retainers yesterday after three years of traditional braces and they're a lot more comfortable and they don't hurt as much either.

I think that Invasalign is a smart choice for people who are getting braces on at a later stage in life, because they will be less noticeable. However, most teens are going to just not wear them, because they're not responsible. I got my braces off in a year and two months, and it was in middle school, which meant having braces wasn't a big deal. So all in all, i consider Invisalign good for certain circumstances, and bad for others.

I want Invisalign.

They're a huge responsibility, and people get confused as to what is in your mouth because it's obvious that SOMETHING is on your teeth. Although being able to take them off for special events and take pictures is a huge plus. But there's many downsides that people don't know about until they have them. All in all I wish I would have gotten the traditional wires, even though I'm a little "old" for braces.
