The words "getting the perfect fake tan" hardly go in the same sentence to some girls. It actually can be very simple and you won’t end up looking like an Oompa Loompa. Follow the below steps and you will walk away with great glowing skin! Here are some tips to getting the perfect fake tan.
The number one tip for getting the perfect fake tan, whether you're going to get a spray tan or you're doing it yourself, is to make sure to exfoliate your whole body right before going. This will take off all the dead skin on your body and let the fake tan have a chance to really soak in. Make sure NOT to shower for at least 24 hours after your tan!
2 Wear the Appropriate Clothes
If you are going to get a spray tan, it is very important to wear dark, loose fitting clothes. Using a self tanner at home is great because you can wander around in your birthday suit after, just not sure the workers at a salon would appreciate that. Keep your legs and arms bare (if you can help it) to optimize your tan potential.
3 Use a Scrub Glove
These are very handy for the at home tanning products as this will help apply the tan smoothly without streaks. Simply put some of the cream on the glove, and gently rub into your skin. When you are done, clean the glove, and then go around your elbows and knees to rub off any excess cream.
This is a great tip when getting a spray tan. Dot a small amount of Vaseline onto your eyebrows and next to your hairline. This will ensure that the spray tan doesn’t cling to those areas and create awkward lines. If you are applying tanning cream at home, make sure to take it slow around your face and do a lighter application than anywhere else.
5 Mix with Plain Lotion
This is a tip I swear by as I personally do it all the time. If you find your self tanner is a tad orange or too dark for you, mix some of your tanning lotion with regular lotion in your palm before applying. As the lotion refreshes your skin, the tanning lotion will get its job done!
6 Use Latex Gloves
The sign that you have been using self tanner is the orange hands. Avoid this at all costs! To avoid these orange hands, try using some latex gloves. I know it seems sort of weird, but after a couple applications, you’ll see why it’s necessary. After you’ve done your body and arms, take off the gloves and use a wool pad to apply the lotion to the back of each hand.
7 Lotion Yourself
Be sure to lotion your whole body from head to toe before you apply any sort of self tanner. Let it soak in completely before applying the tanner, but be sure to pay attention to your wrists, elbows, ankles, knees and feet. These are all areas that can get dry easily and need more moisture.
This all seems like so much work to give yourself a tan, but it is very handy in the summertime. I love giving myself a light glow while still maintaining my skin and preventing skin cancer! What’s your best self tanner tip?
