Even though women have different beauty preferences and makeup styles, there are definitely certain beauty items every girl needs to have on a daily basis. If you’re like me, then you’re makeup bag somewhat resembles a disaster area laden in black gunk from your mascara and liquid liner. However, despite my tendency to keep it a little on the chaotic side, my makeup bag is my absolute holy grail. I always stock it up with all the essentials before travelling anywhere, so I figured I would share some of my tried and true beauty items every girl needs with all of you!
A good oil-free moisturizer is absolutely one of the essential beauty items every girl needs. Before putting on your makeup, you need to prep your skin so that you’re working with a smooth, clean base. There’s nothing worse than putting foundation over dry, flaky skin, just further worsening the issue. Keep your skin in top condition ladies, and the rest of your makeup routine will follow suit!
Even if you’re an avid eyebrow waxer, you never know when an unruly brow hair will come into full force, so keeping a pair of tweezers on hand is always a good idea.
One tool I always, always have handy is an eye pencil sharpener. You can get these at a drug store for just $1 and they work fantastically. I haven’t had to replace mine in forever, and it’s still as sharp as the day I bought it.
An investment every woman should make that will not go to waste are good makeup brushes. You absolutely need different brushes for different products. If you use the same brush to apply your blush, bronzer, and setting powder, then that explains the pinky-bronze mug you’ve been sporting lately.
If I’m in a total rush and only have a hot second to put on some makeup before barreling out the door in the morning, I’ll almost always opt for my go-to foundation. It’s so important to find a foundation that matches your skin to a tee, and that provides the coverage you need. It’s also important to remember that your skin tone changes throughout the year, so that tan foundation you were able to use in the summer needs to be replaced with a fairer tone in the winter months, unless of course you’re tan year-round.
Along with a never-fail foundation, having a top-notch mascara in your makeup bag is key. Mascara is essential for brightening your eyes and helping to make you look more "awake," so go ahead and wand-away!
Believe it or not, Q-tips are a total beauty essential. With a quick swipe, you can clean up a little excess eye makeup, smeared lipstick, or loose mascara flakes. One of my secret tips is to put a little dab of lotion on the end of a Q-tip and use that to wipe the makeup off. I find that the lotion takes it off much cleaner than a swab moistened with water.
