Should You Be Drinking Beauty Tea?

By Lisa

Teas are often touted as the healthier alternative to soda, coffee, and sports drinks because of their high content of antioxidants, ability to hydrate the body, boost the immune system, calm nerves, improve concentration, and even help shed some unwanted weight in some cases. While many of the benefits of tea have been related to helping us heal on the inside, there hasn’t been much talk of tea helping us look our best-until now. Lately, there have been a new crop of teas that have the potential to help us achieve a clearer complexion, hydrate dry skin, help protect skin from pollutants and free radicals for younger looking skin, and attain that gorgeous, lit-from-within-glow sans the highlighter. Get to know some of the many ways beauty teas and “regular” teas can help you look your best!

1

Improve Digestion

Digestion is not something we really think or talk about much, but we really should! There appears to be a link between digestion and how our skin looks so it makes sense to pay attention to what we’re putting in our bodies. This is not to say that we can cancel out a junk food-filled diet with a cup of tea. But, a couple of cups of tea can help you achieve the clearer complexion you long for when you’re also eating a clean, balanced diet.

2

Nourish Skin

Nourishing your skin isn’t just about applying the latest and greatest skin care product. Practicing good skin care habits will go a long way, but again, we need to pay attention to what we’re eating and drinking so we achieve good skin from within. Certain ingredients in teas such as the catechins in green tea to the antioxidants in many varieties that fight off free radicals are great additions to your skin care arsenal.

3

Destress Skin

I think we’re all aware of the havoc that too much stress can wreak on our delicate skin. Although we might all react differently to stress, our skin is one of the first places we can see and feel the effects. Use the comforting effects and process of enjoying a steaming cup of tea to help you relax and rejuvenate. Look for teas with calming effects such as chamomile, Holy Basil, or lavender to treat your senses to a mini mental escape. Even a short break can help clear your mind and give you a more positive outlook.

4

Fight Inflammation

According to some experts, many ailments including skin problems are related to inflammation. Whether you choose to subscribe to that school of thought or not, if you have skin conditions such as rosacea or acne, adding some tea with anti-inflammatory benefits in your regular rotation of beverages could give skin a boost. Flavanoids in Rooibos, a fab decaf tea, have anti-inflammatory benefits that can help soothe irritated skin and improve its appearance.

5

Detox Skin

Take a look at Instagram and you’ll see a slew of detox teas that purport to help you lose weight, curb your appetite, decrease cravings, improve digestion, clear up your skin, and more. Though I can’t speak all of those benefits, there are teas formulated to help give your body some help in ridding your body of toxins to help your skin look its best. Kusmi Tea, a brand loved by Kendall Jenner, has a BB detox tea that contains detoxifying ingredients to rid your body of excess fluids, help remove toxins, and hydrate skin from the inside.

Look and Feel Better

We’ve learned that there are some pretty impressive benefits to enjoying a cup or two of tea on the daily. Depending on the type of tea you imbibe, you can enjoy numerous benefits that will not only help you feel better, but look better as well. Improved digestion for better-looking skin, getting more sleep at night to prevent dark circles, helping fight off skin pollutants for clearer skin, and more can certainly help you look and feel your very best.

The Final Word

Should you start shelling out the bucks for beauty tea? This is something only you will be able to answer depending on your budget and skin care needs. However, swapping tea for sodas, energy drinks, sugary juices, and blended coffee drinks is a great way to help you achieve better looking skin while saving on calories and money! If you’re new to tea, try green or peppermint tea first to see how you like it before investing in fancy beauty teas. Chances are, you can get the same skin saving benefits that beauty teas claim to offer in regular teas you can find at the health food store. If you find that you love it and want to broaden your horizons, why not give beauty teas a go?

Would green tea be one?

@Luanne I have used fit tea which is a beauty/fitness tea and I'd recommend it. Don't buy ANYTHING with seena leaves. They're horrible for your gut they can cause your intestines to become dependent on them for movement.

I haven't tried any. I'm not sure that they work. If anyone has can you let me know which one you've tried and if it does really do what it says?

I love going to Teavanna and trying the free samples.

Which teas would be considered beauty teas???
