These New Barbies Are Changing Beauty Standards ...

Have you seen the new line of Barbies that are being released? According to Mental Floss, they come in curvy, petite, and tall! That means Barbie is no longer a stick-thin girl with unobtainable proportions.
Now, she come in all different shapes and sizes. This new set of dolls even has twenty-two different eye colors and seven different skin tones. It's a way to make every little girl out there feel beautiful.
The days of playing with unrealistic Barbies are over, thanks to Mattel. Hopefully, this means that the future generation will be more comfortable in their skin.

Do you think that this is a great idea?

I'm in love with this! Now I want TO GET ONE!

they look like the everyday women I see

I heard about this, and I also am in favor of it =) This is a fantastic idea, and sending out such a beautiful message. As others have stated, it would not have been a bad idea to have thought of this earlier. We live in a society where the media can really have a negative effect on people. Especially young girls that are growing up.

Yes it's a great idea for those who look at barbies in the way. I wasn't into Barbies just like what was commented above by Aysa so I didn't care either.

Why are young girls being taught to settle for things about their bodies they don't care for? Hard work that comes from good nutrition and a good (sometimes grueling) exercise program t

It's an amazing idea, but as a kid i never looked at a barbie and thought "why don't i have that hair" i looked at Pocahontas and Princess Jasmine and thought, fuck yeah, i have great long brown hair instead. Barbie's don't affect everyone, and tbh, I never was a girly girl anyway, it's probably the gaming that made me not give a crap,

I grew up playing with barbules. I never cared about how she looks or wanting to look like that. I think it's up to parents to teach their children to be comfortable in their own skin and accept who they are. We should not let a doll decide for us; whether or not we are good looking etc ...

I think it's great in theory. However, it would be a hassle for parents because of the extra costs for individual clothes and accessories. Instead, I think parents should teach their kids that barbies are dolls and therefore meant to be unrealistic and that comparing yourself to them is useless

Bravo to Mattel

*by the way, I would like to add that the way girls feel about themselves should start in the home. Our parents should be our biggest role models and supporters.
