One of the ways to look years younger is by getting expensive procedures done, like face lifts and Botox. Unfortunately, many of us don’t have the money or the pain threshold for procedures like that. Plus, procedures can end up making someone look fake rather than looking younger. Instead, there are simpler, cheaper alternatives to plastic surgery – here’s a few ways to look years younger!
1. Eye Treatments
One of the ways to look years younger is by treating the area around your eyes. The skin around your eyes is very thin compared to the rest of your face and that is why it is one of the first places on your face you will see wrinkles. Because of the delicate nature of the skin around your eyes, eye serums and creams will help to minimize wrinkles, thus helping your appearance to remain youthful.
Jojoba, argan, grape seed oil and many other types of oils are available for skin care. Usually purchased at cosmetic stores, oils are a great way to keep the skin tight and hydrated. Plus, using facial oils helps to reduce acne because your own skin cells will produce less oil, thus reducing oily skin and clogged pores. However, oils are best used at night and right before going to bed, therefore you will avoid having an oily or shiny complexion during the day.
Exfoliating is a must for any skin care routine. Exfoliating your skin with products such as facial scrubs helps to remove dull, dead skin cells and reveal new skin cells. Another benefit of exfoliating is that by removing dead skin cells, you will reduce clogged pores that ultimately lead to acne. Gentle exfoliating of the face should only be done 2-3 times a week or else your skin will become sensitive and irritated.
The type and amount of makeup you use can also affect the perception of your age. When choosing makeup, try to look for products that are fragrance, dye, paraben and sulfate free since they can damage your skin with extended use. Furthermore, when using a liquid foundation, set your makeup with sheer powder or a setting spray so your makeup doesn’t crease around the wrinkles. And finally, less is more – the more makeup you use, the more “caked” your face will look and the less natural you will look.
5. Water and Diet
Your skin cells replenish and renew themselves using what it can find in your body. With that being said, if your diet lacks nutrients, vitamins and minerals, your skin will look lackluster and even become acne prone. A diet rich in zinc, vitamin B and vitamin C will improve the appearance of your skin. Most importantly, drinking water hydrates your body from the inside out, thus helping your skin to glow.
Regardless of your age, having an unhealthy body weight can age you, whether it be too heavy or too skinny. Exercising, keeping your body toned and firmed and staying within a healthy BMI (body mass index) of 18.5 – 24.9 will keep you looking young. Make it a routine to go for a power walk before work or to go to the gym for a hour on your days off. Plus, exercising doesn’t only keep you looking young, but it helps you feel young too and will increase the longevity of your lifespan.
7. Hair Care
Hair that is too big or too thin can age you. Plus, having the same hairstyle can get boring and might even become outdated. Get outside of your comfort zone and change your hairstyle every few years. In addition, in between hair appointments, keep your hair looking youthful by doing tricks such as mixing mayonnaise into your hair for a few hours (on your days off and when you’re not expecting guests over of course) to keep your hair looking shiny and healthy!
A busy lifestyle can force you to forego a beauty routine but it’s easy to maintain your youthful look without taking too much time out of your day. Many of the things mentioned, like massaging oil on your face at night or exfoliating your face, don’t take more than 2-3 minutes out of your day. What are some other things we can do to continue to look youthful?
